Message from Mother's Day Chair

Each year, the Igbo Women League (IWL) of Minnesota celebrates its annual Mother’s Day and fund raising event. In continuance of this annual tradition, this year, 2018 will be another fabulous year for IWL. Last year we celebrated our 23rd Mother’s Day Anniversary, which was incredibly successful in raising funds for lWL’s charitable projects here in Minnesota and in Nigeria.

This year will be our traditional celebration, which will be free and open to the public. Our 24th annual IWL Mother’s Day celebration and fund raising is scheduled for Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the Church of Assumption, 305 East 77th Street, Richfield, Minnesota.

The event will kick off exactly 4:00 pm until 12:00 am. We welcome you to join us for our annual 5K/1K Wellness Run/Walk which is in its 5th year, on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Central Park in Brooklyn Park at 9:00 am prompt.

Our theme this year is “Mothers’ Influence in Our Evolving Society”. The resiliency of mothers’ and their relationship with their children provides us with a unique legacy. We will be highlighting our rich heritage with many fun activities. Some of these activities include women’s traditional Igbo dance, raffle, children performances, music entertainment, and above all an array of authentic dishes.

We implore you to join us as we raise funds for our notable projects. These projects include the youth mentoring and leadership program for children of African descent in Minnesota, motherless babies’ homes support, and educational support for underprivileged girls in Nigeria. These projects in part rely on our continued support to continue to positively impact lives of our community here in Minnesota and in Nigeria.
