Message from Mother’s Day Chair
Each year, the Igbo Women League (IWL) of Minnesota celebrates its annual Mother’s Day and fund – raising event. However, the onset of COVID-19 halted IWL Mother’s Day activities for two years. During the pandemics IWL continued to fund its core projects including the youth mentoring and leadership program for children of African descent in Minnesota, motherless babies’ homes support, and educational support for underprivileged girls in Nigeria. Also, IWL embarked on COVID-19 vaccination projects, initiated collaboration with other organizations and continues to build our community through service.
In continuance of IWL annual tradition, this year, 2022 will be another fabulous year for IWL. In 2019 we celebrated our Silver Jubilee which was incredibly successful in raising funds for lWL’s charitable projects here in Minnesota and in Nigeria.
This year’s Mother’s Day celebration and fund raising will be a traditional event involving adults and families on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Brooklyn Park Recreation and Activity Center 5600 85thAve N., Brooklyn Park Minnesota 55443. Admission is FREE for All!!! The event will kick off exactly 5:00 pm until 11:00 pm. We welcome you to join us for our annual 5K/1K Wellness Run/Walk which is in its 9th year, on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Central Park in Brooklyn Park at 9:00 am prompt.
Our theme this year is “1WL – Building Our Community Through Service.” The IWL members have been resiliant since the onset of the organization and even more especially during the pandemic. We will be highlighting our rich heritage with many fun activities. Some of these activities include cultural dancers, drama, music entertainment, and above all an array of great African food.
We implore you to join us as we raise funds for our notable projects. These projects include the youth mentoring and leadership program for children of African descent in Minnesota, motherless babies’ homes support, and educational support for underprivileged girls in Nigeria. These projects in part rely on our support to continue to positively impact lives of our community here in Minnesota and in Nigeria. I encourage you to check out our website at www.igbowomenleaguemn.org for additional information about IWL.
Thank you for all your ongoing support, your contribution of time and energy and your generous donations. I look forward to seeing you at our Mother’s Day Celebration.
Thank you and God Bless.
Dr. Mrs. Jane Nwaudo
IWL 2022 Mother’s Day Chairperson.
